Our team has decided to offer our new hostel to host frontline healthcare workers fighting COVID-19 in our city.
We had closed our hostel operations last week, but now recognize how we can best use our resources during these uncertain times. We still need ideas on reaching out to healthworkers as well as best ways to manage this undertaking.
At SherpaShah, the COVID-19 crisis has hit all our enterprises massively as is the case with so many people around the world. We have other properties which we have been operating as travel accommodations, and we will gladly open them up to host healthworkers as (1) the situation degrades further, and (2) we have capacity to manage such arrangements.
The coronavirus demands social distance, but we can build human connections.

Respirator Masks for Healthcare Professionals
*** 185 of 300 masks pledged ***
We are asking financial donation to purchase KN95 respirator masks which will be distributed at no cost to healthcare personnel in Kathmandu who are managing patients with confirmed/suspected cases of COVID-19. We understand that most of these caregivers are only using surgical masks/cloth-fabric mask which doesnt provide enough protection against the virus.
KN95 respirator masks are recommended to healthcare professionals to avoid transmission of COVID-19; KN95 is Chinese standard which is equivalent to N95 American standard. We already have a reliable supplier in Kathmandu, and we need to raise money asap to purchase these masks.
For now, we are planning to secure 300 KN95 masks through pledges from our friends, family, and our network at SherpaShah, NepaliTravellers, and Hostel Solo Travel Nepal. This is something we can quickly make happen while still quarantining ourselves in our homes.
Please make pledges of 5 masks (2500 npr) or 10 masks (5000 npr) if you are able to contribute. We are trying to keep the pledge process simple and straightforward. Please send us a message if you want to contribute.

Join us for the TRAIL HIKE TO CHITLANG on SEPT 7 & 8.
About CHITLANG:
“It is believed Chitrapur (ancient name of Chitlang) was renamed Chaityalan, chaitya (monument) and lan (path) in Newari, after emperor Ashoka built chaitya during his tour to Nepal in Kirat dynasty (800 BCE-300 BCE). Over the years, the name got misquoted as Chitlang” said Santa Lal Newa, a 71-years old gentleman, who is an authority on the history of Chitlang. “There is also a different opinion, which claims that Chitlang being very close to Patan, got its name from Chi (meaning short) and lan (path). The term Chilan is still used in Newari verses, but the first name of Chitlang was Ek Chakri Nagar, to go by the oldest history of Chitlang,” added Mr. Newa". (By Ravi Man Singh)

SWO-YATRA, the Solo Woman Travel Challenge, is now in INDONESIA!
#swoyatra #ayoindonesia
Our team at NepaliTravellers is really excited to collaborate with Anissa Syifa Adriana, who is launching a solo travel platform for women travellers in Indonesia. Syifa has been travelling solo for several years now, and this grant platform in Indonesia is informed and influenced by the challenges/opportunities she has encountered as a solo woman traveller in her community in Indonesia and on the road internationally.
Applications are open until 28 Feb 2019, and any Indonesian woman can apply to travel anywhere in the country! Please SHARE the word.
The bigger conversation around SWO-YATRA is the inclusivity in global travel. Are people of certain citizenship/ethnicity/gender marginalized? We hope to expand the network to facilitate reflective discourse and inspire expressive journeys. We are committed to encouraging travel in Nepal and, now, in Indonesia. A larger idea is emerging to connect travel communities across South/South East Asia.
Thank you Syifa for taking this lead! And big thanks to all the team and alumni at NepaliTravellers for ideas and assistance.
P.S. Follow Syifa "Anissa Syifa Adriana" across social media, in FB, Instagram, and Youtube. She is kind of famous :P
