Join us for the TRAIL HIKE TO CHITLANG on SEPT 7 & 8.
About CHITLANG:
“It is believed Chitrapur (ancient name of Chitlang) was renamed Chaityalan, chaitya (monument) and lan (path) in Newari, after emperor Ashoka built chaitya during his tour to Nepal in Kirat dynasty (800 BCE-300 BCE). Over the years, the name got misquoted as Chitlang” said Santa Lal Newa, a 71-years old gentleman, who is an authority on the history of Chitlang. “There is also a different opinion, which claims that Chitlang being very close to Patan, got its name from Chi (meaning short) and lan (path). The term Chilan is still used in Newari verses, but the first name of Chitlang was Ek Chakri Nagar, to go by the oldest history of Chitlang,” added Mr. Newa". (By Ravi Man Singh)
